With Season 11 concluded, Diablo 4 Season 12 has emerged with a fresh look. It's known that Nightmare Dungeons has undergone some modifications. While the dungeons are fraught with danger, I believe the excitement is also palpable.
If you're looking forward to it, get ready to explore this guide. This guide will detail the aspects of Nightmare Dungeons that you'll find most interesting.
Introduction
It's worth noting that Nightmare Dungeons offer more than just new challenges. It revolutionizes Diablo 4's mechanics through the use of Dungeon Affixes. The rules of the game have also changed.
Breaking away from the stereotypes of previous games, Nightmare Dungeons' gameplay is no longer repetitive and monotonous. Besides providing a new experience, your combat skills must also be improved. Otherwise, the monsters in the dungeons will unleash unexpected damage.
The monsters in the dungeons in Diablo 4 possess greater agility and lethality. Because various Affixes have appeared in the dungeons, these Dungeon Affixes offer various buffs to monsters, including but not limited to increasing their attack speed, neutralizing certain elements, and stealing their life.
You also need to pay attention to Empowered Elites affix and a special affix. They pose a significant challenge in dealing damage. They are responsible for inflicting specific damage and causing chaos in the dungeons.
By now, you understand that understanding the role of these Affixes is essential for better character building. Plan ahead to clear dungeons more efficiently.

Entrance
You must reach World Tier III to qualify for Nightmare Dungeons. Of course, unlocking Nightmare Dungeons requires a crucial key, which necessitates completing the entire campaign and conquering the high-difficulty Cathedral of Light Capstone Dungeon.
After completing this, submit 10 Grim Favors to Tree of Whispers to obtain a Tier 1 Nightmare Sigil. This is your key to unlocking Nightmare Dungeons. However, please remember that this is only the first key.
You'll need as many sigils as possible in the dungeons. Complete the required world events, defeat world bosses, and listen to whispers - do as much as you like. The sigils hidden within Nightmare Dungeons themselves can also be a source of sigils.
After successfully completing a Tier 3 Nightmare Dungeon, you gain more control over your sigils; you can dismantle and craft them yourself.
Controls
There are two types of Nightmare Sigils in Diablo 4: Sacred Sigils and Ancestral Sigils. Sacred Sigils, ranging from level 1 to 20, are obtainable in World Tier III, while Ancestral Sigils are available in the higher World Tier IV, ranging from level 21 to 100.
Each Nightmare Sigil has its own unique characteristics. Hovering the mouse over the sigil will expand its detailed information, showing its level, corresponding dungeon, and Affixes, which can be used directly in Consumables tab.
The dungeon level is directly tied to the monster level, while Affixes provide a more significant challenge due to their buffs to monsters. Once used, a Nightmare Sigil is immediately deployed to the dungeon; be prepared for battle.
Due to changes in dungeon level, the effects on monsters (revives and affixes) change. What remains constant is that each dungeon consists of one positive affix and 2-4 negative affixes. The number of negative affixes generally increases with different Sigil Tiers, while resurrection opportunities are limited to only 4 in Ancestral Sigil Tiers.
Rewards
Defeating high-level enemies during Nightmare Dungeons will naturally yield higher experience points. You'll cleverly realize this greatly aids in leveling up. Unlocking all of them guarantees you at least four items, including a guaranteed legendary or unique item, as well as a large amount of Diablo 4 Gold.
Besides equipment and experience points, obtaining and upgrading Glyphs is a major draw. Glyphs are an integral part of Paragon Board; strengthen them to maximize their effectiveness. The richness of loot is directly proportional to the dungeon's level. Whether you venture out for rich rewards or rely on defeating low-level monsters is your choice.
Regarding the use of Diablo 4 Glyphs, the experience points gained from defeating them after completing the dungeon can also be used. This is similar to Greater Rifts in Diablo 3. The usage limits of Glyphs have been maximized.
After reading this guide, you should now have a plan for your Nightmare Dungeon journey. Keep fighting monsters and leveling up, constantly improving your strength, and successfully complete Nightmare Dungeons in Diablo 4!
