EA Sports College Football 27 will officially launch on July 9th, with Early Access available on July 2nd. As the final installment of the series' three-year plan, this game's Dynasty mode features its most profound innovation ever - NIL. Its introduction completely changes the rules of the game for recruitment.
For players choosing one-star or two-star schools, building a team this year will be more challenging than ever. But it's precisely this difficulty that makes it so rewarding. Today, based on my Early Access experience with CFB 27 and extensive past practical experience, I'll outline a complete method from scouting to signing, helping you discover hidden gems even on a tight budget.
What is NIL?

Before starting recruitment, it's essential to understand what the new NIL is. In College Football 27, each player has a Dynasty Points budget, which you use to cover various expenses such as recruiting, NIL, staff, and facilities. The budget difference between schools of different prestige levels is enormous:
- One-star schools: Approximately $800–$2,000 per year
- Three-star schools: Approximately $5,000
- Five-star schools: Up to $10,000
More importantly, each player now has an expected NIL offer. Even if a four-star player doesn't receive any offers from other schools, if their expected NIL offer is $230 and your budget doesn't match, you'll almost certainly not be able to recruit them.
Even more brutally, top schools with $10,000 budgets can suddenly appear and poach your carefully cultivated recruitment targets. Therefore, for low-prestige schools, don't waste your energy on four-star and five-star players from the start. Three-star players are the cornerstone of your roster and the fastest path to success.
Break the Myth of National Rankings
This is a golden rule carried over from CFB 26 and still holds true in 27: there is no necessary correlation between a player's national ranking and their actual potential, development traits, and skill point cap.
A three-star player ranked 447th nationally could very well be worse than a three-star player ranked 1500th nationally. Therefore, your strategy should be to find the cheapest three-star players who best suit your needs.
A high-ranking three-star player might have an expected NIL of $100+, while a low-ranking three-star player might have an expected NIL of $0. These three-star players could even be hidden gem players—meaning they have lower overall ratings but possess elite-level development traits. After one or two seasons of coaching, they could very well become star players, and the College Football 27 coins they return to you will be worth far more than the virtual $100 in the game.
For a one-star school with a total budget of only $1,000, signing a low-ranked three-star gem player at $0 cost is undoubtedly the best value compared to signing a high-ranked three-star player for $100.
Choosing the Right Deal Breaker
Every recruiter has a deal breaker. If this condition cannot be met, the player will exclude you during the recruiting process. In NCAA 27, the importance of the deal breaker is further amplified.
Highly Recommended Deal Breakers:
- Playing Time: For low-prestige schools, the players you pursue are likely to become starters quickly, so this deal breaker is almost never a problem.
- Proximity to Home: This is a static indicator that doesn't fluctuate and is very safe.
- Coach Prestige: As long as you have confidence in your team, this will only improve over time.
Deal Breakers to Avoid:
- Playing Style: This is the most ruthless of all deal breakers. If your future offensive system doesn't match the player's preferences, they will leave without hesitation.
- Pro Potential: Low prestige schools often struggle to get players into the NFL Draft early on, putting them at a disadvantage due to this deal breaker.
- Conference Prestige: This metric is league-wide and not entirely under your control.
JUCO vs Non-JUCO
When selecting recruits, pay attention to a player's JUCO status. JUCO players enter as juniors, giving you only two years to use them. Non-JUCO players, on the other hand, enter as freshmen, giving you four years to use them.
Four years is always more advantageous than two. Unless a JUCO player's ability significantly exceeds your current roster, always prioritize Non-JUCO players.
Blind Scouting Techniques - A Lifeline When Recruiting Hours Run Out
During the recruiting process, your Recruiting Hours and Scouting Points are limited resources. What do you do when these resources run out, and you still have many recruits yet to be scouted? One viable method is to look at a player's Playing Time Grade. When two three-star players have significantly different Playing Time ratings, such as an A+ and a C-, the player with the higher rating is usually the better choice.
However, this isn't 100% accurate. A three-star player with a Playing Time C- could still be a gem player. But when you don't have other data to refer to, Playing Time Grade is the most effective free filtering tool.
In short, College Football 27's Dynasty mode tests your resource management skills more than ever before. But precisely because of this, the sense of accomplishment when you finally turn a one-star school into a national champion will be unprecedented. Good luck with your recruitment, see you on the field!
