Atelier Yumia Has Made A Breakthrough In This Series

By Cornell Otto | Last ModifiedFeb 28, 2025

Since the birth of Atelier series, Gust’s diligence can simply make other game practitioners feel ashamed. They almost release a work at the rate of one per year. There are even a few years when he can release three works a year.

As a JRPG, the Atelier series does have some homogeneity problems, but Gust also keeps pace with the times and strives to innovate in every work. Their work in 2025 is Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & The Envisioned Land. Atelier Yumia will be released on PC, Xbox and PlayStation platforms on March 21st.

Atelier Yumia Has Made A Breakthrough In This Series

Map

First, let’s introduce wilderness exploration. The exploration system of this game is an orthodox evolution of Atelier Ryza 3: Alchemist of the End & the Secret Key.

Atelier Ryza 3 uses an open scene system close to the open world. That is, you can move seamlessly within the same area, but in most cases, it is connected by small areas through narrow passages, and it is not true that you can go wherever you see.

In Atelier Yumia, a fairly large map is prepared, and players can freely explore in any direction. Players can jump from high to low, but this game introduces the concept of “energy”, which is a bit similar to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. If your energy is exhausted, you will fall off the cliff and take damage.

You also have a very cool motorcycle that allows you to explore the map faster.

Combat

When you come into contact with the enemy in the scene, you will enter the battle seamlessly. There can be up to 3 characters in the front row participating in the battle, and the player can control one of them to fight.

The battle is carried out in real time, and controlling one of the teammates is the same as Atelier Ryza 3, but the specific details have changed a lot, forming Atelier Yumia’s unique battle system.

The basic battle is to press the corresponding button to use skills continuously. Each skill has a limit on the number of uses, and it will enter a cooldown after use. However, the cooldown period ends when you defend against enemy attacks or move to avoid enemy range attacks, so you won’t be annoyed by the waiting time.

In addition, the feature of this game is that Yumia and her companions can switch between melee and ranged modes during battle. These two modes have different skills.

All characters are flexible in battle, especially Yumia’s footsteps are the best. Not only when she uses skills but also when she upgrades, her kicking and jumping movements are very dynamic.

Construction System

Players can build their own huts in the game. The roof, walls and other decorations can be set by yourselves. Players can also set trees around the hut and arrange furniture inside the room, which has a high degree of freedom.

In terms of story, Atelier Yumia did not make too many breakthroughs, and basically followed the same storyline of this series. But if you are a fan of Atelier series, this game will definitely bring you a lot of experience beyond the previous one.
