Today I want to talk about the current state of New World: Aeternum Season 9. Lately, there’s been a lot of talk in the community about the game dying, and many players feel it’s beyond saving.
Why has it come to this? Is it the game’s fault? Or is it our own fault?
First, let me share my opinion. The game’s lack of content after completing the game is certainly to blame. The gameplay isn’t keeping up, which makes it really boring.
The Community Environment Is Terrible
But honestly, much of the current community resentment is actually caused by the players themselves. With the game at this point, the community problems may be even more serious.
If you don’t believe me, check out the in-game chat channels, whether it’s recruiting or just chatting in public, you’ll always see things that shouldn’t be in the game.
Sudden racist comments and inexplicable political arguments between strangers make one wonder whether everyone is here to play games or to debate.
In my opinion, New World Aeternum player community is slowly deteriorating. I might even say it’s one of the most destructive gaming communities I’ve ever seen.
Player Hostility Is Excessive
I genuinely enjoy this game and don’t think it’s inherently bad, but I can’t stand the players sabotaging each other.
Veteran players often criticize others’ builds as inferior, especially returning players and newcomers. They casually say, “This build is just average.” Remember, rare builds often require a sufficient supply of New World Aeternum coins, which is a complete mockery of other players.
In fact, we should all reflect on ourselves, myself included: Are we truly being friendly to all players?
Speaking of which, I even quit the game for a few months because I couldn’t stand this kind of atmosphere, and I’ve publicly criticized some players’ behavior.
Sometimes, a single harsh remark can completely dampen someone’s enthusiasm for playing. The power of words is so easily overlooked. I didn’t realize it until I slowly began to understand it.
So, this time, when I returned, I deliberately changed my approach: I focused on being a healer, healing anyone who needed it. I’m certainly not very good at DPS, and tanking isn’t my strong suit; healing is my comfort zone.
Even so, I still get criticized. I really want to tell those who find fault with my build: if you think there’s something wrong with my build, just tell me how to fix it, instead of mocking my build as crappy.
I can still heal my teammates with my build, I’ve fought dozens of Gorgon raids, and farmed a fair bit in M3 expeditions. Doesn’t that make me a competent healer?
Some people always think that only the best healers, DPS players, or tanks are good at teaming up, but there aren’t that many top players in the game. We’re all just ordinary people, and playing together is what makes the game fun.
New World Aeternum Season 9 was supposed to be an inclusive game, one where everyone needs to be included. However, the current community atmosphere has completely eroded this sense of collaboration, becoming a burden that holds players back.
Anyone who has played other games knows that few communities are as charged with hostility as this one. I understand players inevitably have negative emotions, but aren’t games meant to be relaxing?
Instead of spending time mocking others’ equipment and playstyles, why not spend a few minutes teaching new players how to build gear? Instead of kicking teammates out of a dungeon over a disagreement, why not patiently guide them through the mechanics? Even if they’re struggling right now, who hasn’t been a beginner once?
Veteran players mentoring new players, and returning players helping newbies, that’s how a game can survive. Only in this way can New World Aeternum slowly improve, rather than spiraling downward amidst mutual recriminations.
So finally, I want to say that I hope every player who reads this article can be more patient with the people around them, whether they are newbies who have just entered the game or returning players who have not been back for a long time. Let us work together to make Aeternum continent lively for a little longer, okay?
