For class and build balance reasons, nearly every class enters a new season with a dominant build, reaching the S-tier in the current leaderboard. Furthermore, Chaos Armor mechanic introduced in Diablo 4 Season 10 allows each character to equip two unique items simultaneously, allowing players to invest Diablo 4 gold in builds that were impossible in previous seasons, greatly enriching build diversity.
However, despite this, one class still has a relatively narrow build profile: Necromancer. Even with the abundant Chaos Unique drops, some Necromancer builds lack impressive damage, especially in some endgame content. This puts it in a very awkward position in Season 10.
I imagine some will question this, considering Necromancer was the best class in Season 9, with its Minion builds capable of dealing millions of damage per second, easily clearing every monster on the screen. Yes, Necromancer build's effect is quite different. This requires players to be more cautious when choosing a build.
Builds like Blood Wave and Shadowblight Necromancer have both delivered exceptional damage output in previous seasons and will remain a solid choice in Infernal Chaos. However, for builds like Blood Lance Necromancer, even investing a significant amount of Diablo 4 gold may not yield the best results.

If you still have questions about this, we'll explain them below.
Why Blood Lance Necromancer Lacks Competitiveness?
Blood Lance Necromancer build features most of the class's core abilities, but as the name suggests, Blood Lance still plays a major role. Its available abilities include:
- Blood Lance
- Corpse Tendrils
- Corpse Explosion
- Reap
- Bone Prison
- Bone Storm
The core mechanic of this build is to crowd control enemies using Corpse Tendrils and Bone Prison, then use Blood Lance and Bone Storm to deal heavy damage and deliver a fatal blow.
Corpse Explosion's primary purpose is to trigger passive abilities like Fueled By Death, Grim Harvest, and Flesh-Eater, replenishing Necromancer's Essence and providing additional damage.
Blood Lance Necromancer can maximize its abilities through several unique abilities. For example, using a Mutilator Plate grants a chance to double Blood Lance's damage while also granting a buff. Furthermore, Bone Storm can be enhanced by utilizing Chaos Armor like Lidless Wall.
In Season 10, Legendary Aspect of Gore Quills offered some unexpected surprises, allowing Necromancer to create Blood Lances with increased damage and power by consuming Blood Orbs.
Is Blood Lance Necromancer Polarizing?
While Diablo 4 players have been utilizing various Uniques and Legendary Aspects to maximize Blood Lance, these abilities haven't been able to adequately fill the gap.
As we know, one of Blood Lance abilities is to release a lance that briefly resides within an enemy, dealing damage to the initial target and any pierced enemies over 3 seconds. While this damage can spread to surrounding enemies, it primarily targets a single enemy. This lack of range significantly reduces its usefulness compared to Blight or Sever.
How Will Blood Lance Necromancer Evolve In The Future?
Although Blood Lance Necromancer enjoyed impressive performance in Season 10 thanks to the addition of Chaos Armor, this build still lags behind other Necromancer builds.
Perhaps a new, exclusive Unique could address the shortcomings of this skill, but for now, Mutilator Plate remains the only Blood Lance-specific Unique.

We believe there are many future possibilities for this build. Especially against group enemies, Blood Lance could benefit from new Uniques to increase its utility in these situations. These could include granting bonus damage to nearby enemies upon hitting them, allowing Lance to pierce enemies in multiple directions when using skills, or granting Blood Lance a bonus upon dealing damage.
We believe that with the added power of these Uniques, Blood Lance Necromancer will have even more impressive performance in Diablo 4.
For now, though, Necromancer has a much better build option in Diablo 4 Season 10, and the direction of Blood Lance Necromancer's development in Season 10 remains uncertain.
All in all, Blood Lance Necromancer build's decline in Diablo 4 Season 10 seems inevitable, but we can still look forward to the endless possibilities it offers with improvements.
